Welcome to one of the most thrilling areas of Camp! Riding the roller coasters, flying in the sky swings, and the zooming down the water slide are all great ways we can learn about physics.
Physics is the science that explores matter and how matter interacts. Physicists work to discover and characterize the universal laws which govern matter, movement and forces, space and time, and other features of the natural world.
How fast will this go? Why does the ball bounce that way? How can you make a paper airplane fly farther? All of these questions can be answered with physics. Come see what Wonders you’ll find in the Wonder Amusement Park!

What you'll need
- New AA battery
- Small piece of insulated wire
- 2-3 inch metal screw
- Strong magnet (neodymium)
- Safety glasses
Attach the magnet to the flat end of screw.
Attach the magnet to the flat head of the screw. This will magnetize the entire screw. Then, attach the“minus” terminal of the battery to the tip of the screw.
Hold one end of the wire to the positive terminal of the battery with your finger. Touch the other end of the wire to the magnet.

Why does that happen?
The electricity interacts with the magnetic field of the magnet producing a force that turns the entire assembly, thus creating a simple motor.
